Tendinitis is the inflammation of a tendon, the thick cord that attaches muscle to bone. The condition is usually the result of repetitive motion or overuse. This can occur with various activities such as typing, using a mouse, or playing tennis. Tendinitis can also be caused by a sudden injury, such as a fall.
The most common symptom of tendinitis is pain, which can range from very mild to severe. The pain usually worsens when the affected tendon is used. Other symptoms may include stiffness, swelling, and tenderness.
Tendinitis is usually treated with a combination of rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medication. But in some cases, chiropractic care and/or physical therapy may be recommended. Surgery is rarely necessary.
